This specialization aims to prepare students to tackle the challenges of managing forest areas in tropical countries by giving them the means to consider knowledge of forests and the ecological characteristics of these environments alongside socio-economic and political issues and policies of the intertropical region.
The role of forests in sustainable development processes involves complex issues which are the subject of controversy, debate and international commitments:
The GEEFT track of the 3A master's degree will not be open at M1 level for the start of the 2025 academic year. It will only be open at M2 level.
Programme
Number of ECTS credits : 60 ECTS
Language of instruction : In French
The programme focuses on the management of natural environments and resources (botany, ecology, climate change issues, agroforestry, tropical timber, ecological engineering, silviculture, dendrometry and forest inventory, forest management), as well as human dynamics affecting ecosystems (survey methods, management science, sociology, negotiation, ethnoecology, forest economics, forest and environmental policies).
Other modules cover the tools of an engineer (GIS, system dynamics and modelling, project approaches, statistics) and personal development (English and foreign languages, preparation for entry into the professional world, scientific communication).
The knowledge and skills acquired are implemented in the field through a module in Guyana on the discovery of humid tropical forests, microprojects, and during the individual internship.
The course concludes with an individual internship lasting from five to six months, followed by the writing of a thesis and its presentation before a jury. The objective is for students to implement what they have learned and prepare for their professional integration. The internship allows students to perform a job on their own, benefiting from individualized supervision.
The subject of the internship can be a research or an operational topic, one of the themes covered in the course, or in response to a request formulated by the host organization. The internship leads to the writing of a thesis and a public defence before a jury composed at least of the internship tutor from the host organization, the referent instructor from AgroParisTech and a person not involved with the internship but working on a related theme.
