Objective

The EcoDEVA specialization is based on the transmission of theoretical and methodological knowledge applied to issues involving agricultural and agri-food development, food, and the management of natural resources and the environment in both developed and developing countries.

The course allows students to acquire a capacity for analysis and research at the interface between agricultural development, environmental conservation and agrifood production issues. It provides insights into the functioning of markets and the regulation of environmental protection and the preservation of natural resources.

    Language of instruction : In French

    The EcoDEVA specialization lasts one year (with the possibility of extending to two years for students who are employed). The programme is organized around four teaching units. The first three are :

    • Thematic : agricultural economics and policy, environmental economics and policy, development economics and policy, food systems
    • Methodological (choice of three courses): Applied econometrics, Optimization and mathematical programming tools,  Field research and qualitative analysis, Experimental economics
    • And theoretical courses: New institutional economics, Public economic  calculus, Economic sociology and anthropology

    In the last teaching unit, students choose three options.

    • Option 1 – Food and sustainability
    • Option 2 – Institutional analysis applied to the food sector
    • Option 3 – Institutions anddevelopment
    • Option 5 – Public policies, enterprises and environment
    • Option 6 – Natural resources economics

    The courses are complemented by training in research, first by having students participate in research seminars for an overview of how the scientific community operates, then through work on their theses.

  • Admissions

    The EcoDEVA course is open to students holding a master's degree in economics or management (M1 or M2).

    For international students, a good command of French (speaking and writing) and English (at least reading) is essential. Instruction is in French and the majority of literature used is in English.

    Prerequisites: Refresher courses in microeconomics, econometrics and game theory are organized (distance learning).

  • Careers

    • Teaching and research in universities, agricultural engineering programmes, major public research organizations (INRAE, CIRAD, IRD) after obtaining a PhD.
    • Studies and decision support in engineering and consulting offices, major international organizations, research and development departments of large companies, local authorities, some public or semi-public administrations in the North and South.
    • As supervisory and mission officers for agricultural development.
