Objective

The Sustainable agricultural & food systems for the south (SAADS) engineering programme aims to train high-level managers able to put their multidisciplinary, practical and theoretical skills in the service of diverse actors (farms, professional organizations, agribusiness, local authorities, NGOs...) to optimize the production and processing of agricultural and food products in tropical and Mediterranean areas while promoting environmentally and socially sustainable resource management.

Over the three-year programme, students earn the equivalent of a Bachelor of Science (at the end of the first year), a Master of Science 1 (at the end of the second year) and Master of Science 2 (at the end of the third year). The Sustainable agricultural & food systems for the south (SAADS) programme identifies and targets two types of professional situations which are distinct but complementary: agricultural enterprises and food processing.

The programme enables graduates to be rapidly operational in the field.

The Sustainable agricultural & food systems for the south (SAADS) engineering programme is a three-year programme:

    1. B.Sc, known as the common core. The combination of life sciences, formal sciences, human and social sciences is what makes the first year of this course so original and powerful. The multidisciplinary curriculum focuses on production, processing units and value chains in the South. After building awareness of major global agricultural and food issues, the programme introduces engineering tools and methods, and explores the biological, technical and social sciences applied to agronomy and food. At the end of this year, students are able to articulate their knowledge and pursue a systemic approach to production and processing units and their value chains.

Between the 2nd week of June and the end of August (for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks), students do an internship on a farm with a suitable processing plant or in an agri-food company (to be determined according to the student’s specialization and career plans) in France or abroad.
    2. M.Sc 1. In the first semester (semester 7), students choose one of two possible pre-specializations; in the second semester (semester 8), the focus is on broadening and individualizing their knowledge through mobility and specialized courses.
    3. M.Sc 2. Students choose from among the following options:
Markets, organizations, quality, services and policies in southern agriculture
      Resources and Agricultural Systems Development
Innovation, development and entrepreneurship in food processing for tropical and mediterranean countries.
