Department of Sciences for Agro-Bio-Processes

The Department of Sciences for Agro-Bio-Processes covers a wide range of disciplines: mathematics and their interactions, information technology and applications, optics and photonics systems, mechanics of fluid environments, automatic and computer-integrated & robotic, Process engineering, agrifood biotechnologies & food sciences, theoretical and physical & analytical chemistry, biology of organisms & microbial biotechnology.
The teaching and research activities of the department lie at the interface of two scientific axes:
- Sustainable food systems: sustainability of food systems, energy transition for agricultural production and processing technologies, and biorefinery of entire plants
- Predictive bioengineering: digital agriculture & big data science.
Training program
Teachers in the department are actively involved in :
- Two engineering courses: Agriculture engineering and Sustainable agricultural and food systems for the south
- Two master’s programs co-accredited with the University of Montpellier: Water Sciences and Biology Agrosciences—Agrifood and environmental sciences and processes specialization
- and the Master Agronomy and Agrifood Sciences (3A) and the European Master Vinifera programmes.
The teaching teams offer six options:
- Agri-food and agro-industry
- AgroTIC - Information and communication technologies for agriculture and environment
- Chemistry and bioprocesses for sustainable development
- Data Science for agronomy and agri-food
- Innovation, development and entrepreneurship in food processing for tropical and mediterranean countries
- Viticulture-oenology
Research
The department staff are assigned to eight research units (G-Eau, IATE, ITAP, UPR LBE, Mistea, QualiSud, SPO), grouped by discipline and the diverse themes and topics studied (agriculture, agronomy, wine, cereals, fruit, non-food...).
